I love going to the stores this time of year! I feel like a child again with a big smile on my face looking at all the Christmas lights, trees, stockings, garlands, etc. The stores are just so fun filled with Christmas decor stuff. This time of year is the only time where the whole family anticipates decorating the whole house inside and out! Christmas decorating is just plain fun! The items and options are endless! Christmas decor makes our houses look and feel magical. We can literally stare at a Christmas tree and feel instantly relaxed as if the tree has some power of taking all the worries away. Christmas decorating can also be depressing. As stores continue to display new items that are expensive and is totally out of the family Christmas budget we can leave the store feeling poorer because we can't simply afford everything.
This week as my family decorated for Christmas, we found ways and ideas to decorate for free.
Everything in this picture is free! How?
- The pine branch you see in this picture is real and we got it for free. How? We asked the store where we got our tree from if we could have some of the trimmings that they will throw away and they said yes. We got so much that we used it decorate around the house. This is even easier if you live in a place where you can cut your own tree. Just use the trimmings, put them in a vase and use old ornaments to hang. Beautiful and FREE!!

- Use an old Christmas gift box that you didn't use last year. Yes, that Merry Christmas sign is a gift box we didn't use. Again FREE!!!
- My kids love collecting huge pinecones every time we go to the park. We use them to decorate for fall and Christmas. Again FREE!!!!

- Use your kid's favorite Christmas books and display them on tables. The books add warmness somehow and personal. The kids love reading them throughout the day and is so easy to put back. Again FREE!!!!
- The nativity is an old broken ornament that my kids love. It constantly reminds them of Jesus this time of year. Again FREE!!!!
- The candle was a present and we saved it to use as Christmas decor. Bring out all those red and green candles even if they don't necessarily smell Christmasy. Again FREE!!!
My decor is plain and simple. But it is Christmasy enough and we didn't spend a dime on it. How are you going to spend less on Christmas decor this year?
